Aminu Bande Resigns from PDP Ahead of 2027 Elections

Aminu Bande, who was the gubernatorial candidate for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State during the 2023 elections, has officially resigned from the party. His resignation letter, addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Nasarawa, Birnin Kebbi, is dated April 5, 2026.

In the letter, Bande described his decision as a result of extensive consultations and deep reflection, emphasizing the need to align his aspirations with a political platform capable of delivering effective leadership in Kebbi State. He noted that this move is in the broader interest of advancing good governance across Nigeria.

Bande was the PDP's flagbearer in the 2023 governorship election, where he contested against the incumbent governor, Nasir Idris of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Although he lost the election, he remained a prominent figure within the opposition party until his resignation.

Bande has not disclosed his next political destination but hinted that an announcement regarding his future plans would be made soon, amid speculation about a potential realignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
