Olufunke Daniel's Mother, Chief Opawol, Passes Away

Chief Sabainah Ibironk Opawol, the mother of former Ogun State first lady Olufunke Daniel, passed away on July 2, 2026, at the age of 93 following a brief illness. A statement issued by Steve Oliyid, a media aide to former Ogun State Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, confirmed her death.

Chief Opawol was born on April 23, 1933, to Princess Mariam Ladigbolu and the late Rev. O. Osoba from Olodo village in Abeokuta.

She was a devoted Christian of the Baptist denomination and is remembered for her strength and unwavering faith. Chief Opawol is survived by several children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, including Olufunke Daniel, who is the wife of Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

The family has received an outpouring of condolences from friends and associates across Ogun State and beyond. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, and prayers have been requested for the family during this time of mourning.
