Bamanga Tukur, ex-PDP chair, to be buried September 13

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, died in Abuja on Saturday, just three days before his 91st birthday, which would have been on September 15, 2026. His family has announced that his burial will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in Yola, Adamawa State, after funeral prayers at the Lamido’s Palace at 10:00 a.m.

Tukur served as the Governor of the old Gongola State and as Minister of Industries during the military regime of General Sani Abacha. He held the position of National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party from March 2012 to January 2014 and was also the president of the Africa Business Roundtable in 2012.

He is survived by two wives and 18 children, including Awwal Tukur, the Secretary to the Adamawa State Government. President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences, stating that Tukur's death is a loss to Nigeria.

Additionally, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri declared three days of mourning in honor of Tukur.
