Former PDP Chairman Bamanga Tukur Dies at 90

Bamanga Tukur, the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died on September 12, 2026, at the age of 90. His family, through a statement signed by his son, Awwal D.

Tukur, expressed profound sadness and described him as a beloved father and patriarch who dedicated his life to serving his family, community, Adamawa State, and Nigeria. Tukur was born on September 15, 1935, and would have turned 91 three days after his death.

He served as the governor of the old Gongola State and was Minister of Industries during General Sani Abacha's military regime. Tukur was also the General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

He became the National Chairman of the PDP in March 2012 under President Goodluck Jonathan, a tenure marked by internal party crises, including the emergence of the “New PDP” faction in 2013. He resigned in January 2014 and was later appointed Ambassador-at-Large by the Jonathan administration.

The family announced that funeral arrangements would be communicated later.
