Tinubu Mourns Passing of Elder Statesman Bamanga Tukur

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed his condolences following the death of Bamanga Tukur, a distinguished elder statesman, businessman, and former Governor of the old Gongola State, who died at the age of 90. In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Tinubu described Tukur as a towering figure in Nigeria’s political and economic history.

Tukur served as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982, where he modernized port operations. He was elected Governor of the old Gongola State in 1983 during the Second Republic.

Tukur was also a successful businessman, serving as Chairman of BHI Holdings and the DADDO Group of Companies, and held the position of Federal Minister of Industries from 1993 to 1995 under General Sani Abacha. He was a prominent advocate for Africa’s economic development as Executive President of the African Business Roundtable and Chairman of the NEPAD Business Group.

Tinubu extended condolences to Tukur's family, the Fombina Emirate, and the people of Adamawa State.
