Ex-President Joseph Kabila Sentenced to Death in DR Congo

Former President Joseph Kabila has been sentenced to death in the DR Congo for his alleged involvement with the M23 armed movement and collaboration with Rwanda to overthrow President Felix Tshisekedi. The ruling was delivered in Kinshasa, with Kabila accused of various charges including homicide, torture, and rape linked to M23 activities.

The military prosecutor, Lucien Rene Likulia, stated that Kabila coordinated efforts to spring a coup alongside Corneille Nangaa after the disputed 2018 election. Observers believe the death sentence aims to prevent Kabila from rallying opposition groups within the country.

Kabila's exact whereabouts remain unclear since he left the DRC in 2023.
