Hajiya Saratu Shehu Shagari, the last surviving wife of former Nigerian President Shehu Shagari, has died at the age of 89. The announcement was made by Captain Bala Shagari, the late president's eldest son and Sarkin Mafaran Shagari.

Hajiya Saratu passed away on a Monday afternoon after a prolonged illness. She was described as an embodiment of grace, humility, and quiet strength.

She was the last surviving wife of Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who served as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The family expressed deep sorrow at her passing.
