Onovo Criticizes Nigerian Government's Reckless CNG Policy Implementation

Engineer Martin Onovo, a former presidential candidate and petroleum industry expert, criticized the federal government's Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) policy as reckless and poorly implemented. Onovo, the head of policy position at Movement for Fundamental Change (MFC), highlighted various failures of the initiative, such as poor management capacity, high conversion costs, limited CNG stations, safety concerns, rising CNG prices, corruption, and inefficiency.

He noted that less than one percent of registered vehicles in Nigeria have converted to CNG. Energy analysts attribute the decline in CNG volume to improved efforts by the Nigerian Navy in combating crude oil theft.

The policy's shortcomings have hindered its goal of providing clean and affordable fuel.
