Ex-Nigerian Lawmaker Asks Trump to Review Atiku Probe

Former member of the Federal House of Representatives and former Federal Commissioner of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, submitted a petition to U.S. President Donald Trump on September 24, 2026.

The petition requests a review of a historical U.S. financial-crime investigation concerning former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, initiated by a June 22, 2006 letter from the U.S. Attorney’s Office to Nigerian authorities.

Agbonayinma urged for a fresh examination of the 2006 investigative request and related records, including materials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He highlighted findings from a February 4, 2010 Senate investigation that examined allegations of bribery, money laundering, and wire fraud linked to Atiku.

The petition emphasizes that the allegations should not be seen as proof of guilt but calls for a legal review of any actionable matters. Agbonayinma also requested U.S. authorities to determine the legal status of transactions identified in the congressional record.
