Olofinjana Reflects on 2010 World Cup Exclusion

Former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana expressed his disappointment regarding his exclusion from Nigeria's squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa. Sixteen years later, he lamented that he was never informed of the reasons for his omission, despite having played a crucial role in the qualifying campaign.

At the time, the Super Eagles were managed by Swedish head coach Lars Lagerbäck, with Nwankwo Kanu as the official captain and Joseph Yobo serving as an assistant during the group stage matches. Olofinjana, who earned 48 caps for Nigeria between 2000 and 2011, stated that he captained several qualifying matches and expected communication from the coaching staff or the Nigeria Football Federation regarding his exclusion.

He emphasized that while selections are based on merit, an explanation should have been provided. Olofinjana reflected on the honor of representing Nigeria, stating he always wore the national colors with pride.
