Tinubu Orders Reconstitution of APC Campaign Council

On August 24, President Bola Tinubu directed the reconstitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections. This decision followed backlash regarding the initial 223-member list released by the Presidency, which did not adequately represent key stakeholders and lacked geographical and political balance.

Tinubu's Chief of Staff, alongside the leadership of the National Assembly and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, has been tasked with reviewing the initial composition. Concerns were raised about the exclusion of significant figures, including Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who is the highest-ranking political office holder from the southeast.

The initial list, which appointed former Zamfara State Governor Abdul’aziz Yari as Director-General, faced criticism for its inadequate representation of the National Assembly leadership and the perceived hierarchy within the campaign structure.
