Tinubu Meets APC Governors to Rework Campaign Council

On August 28, 2023, President Bola Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to address the controversy surrounding the party’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council. This meeting followed extensive discussions that began on August 27, which did not yield a resolution.

The initial campaign council list, released on August 23 and comprising 223 members, faced backlash for its composition, leading to its deletion from the APC's official X handle. Sources indicated that the list was created without adequate consultation from key party sections, prompting Tinubu to order a recall and reconstitution of the council.

The consultations aim to produce a more politically balanced structure that reflects the party's strength across Nigeria. A new list is expected to be published after the consultations conclude and receive presidential approval.
