ASNs Enhance Nigeria's Internet Resilience and Identity

At a technology forum in Lagos, Moham Rudman, an advisor to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and large enterprises, discussed the significance of Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) in improving global identity and network resilience. He explained that ASNs serve as unique identifiers assigned to networks, allowing for easier routing policies and better identification of resilient networks.

Rudman noted that without ASNs, ISPs and enterprises would struggle to connect multiple service providers efficiently, which is crucial for maintaining service continuity during disruptions, such as fiber cuts. He stressed the need for domestic internet traffic generation in Nigeria to encourage local data hosting and storage, highlighting that despite achieving 70% domestic traffic, a significant portion of Nigerian content is still hosted outside the country.

He also pointed out that Nigeria's internet traffic has grown by 500% since 2020, reaching two terabits per second, but remains heavily reliant on foreign platforms like Google and social media services.
