Exporters Demand Action on 150 Abandoned Cargoes

Exporters, represented by the Nigerian Shipper Association (NSAN), are calling for intervention over 150 abandoned export cargoes at Apapa Port, which have remained stranded for five months. The complaint, submitted to the Nigerian Shipper Council (NSC) on June 27, 2026, highlights the detrimental impact of the delays on Nigeria's non-oil export trade, including financial losses and the deterioration of perishable agricultural products.

NSAN's president, Dr. Jamilu Moham Goma, noted that a formal complaint was previously submitted to Maersk Line Nigeria on June 15, 2026, demanding immediate shipment of the affected cargo.

However, NSAN alleges that no meaningful action has been taken by the shipping company. The situation poses severe economic consequences, including reduced product quality, breach of supply contracts, potential rejection of cargo by international buyers, and loss of foreign exchange earnings.

NSAN urges the Nigerian Shipper Council to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abandoned cargo and compel Maersk Line Nigeria to expedite the evacuation process while calling for compensation for affected exporters.
