Police Arrest Fake JAMB Registrar Nwogba Arinze

Nwogba Arinze, a 32-year-old man, was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly impersonating Prof. Segun Aina, the Registrar of JAMB, to defraud the public. His arrest occurred on August 27 in Abakaliki following a petition from Prof. Aina and an investigation by the Police Intelligence, Operations and Investigation Unit (PIOIU).

CSP Ani Iniedu disclosed that Arinze and his accomplices created unauthorized accounts using Aina's name and image on platforms like WhatsApp, Truecaller, and LinkedIn, convincing victims they could secure government and JAMB-related contracts. Victims were asked to pay between N900,000 and N3 million as processing fees or bribes.

The investigation, authorized by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, established a prima facie case against Arinze for criminal conspiracy, online impersonation, identity theft, and online fraud. During the investigation, police recovered an ATM card belonging to deceased Edeh Chimezie Benedict, whose account was allegedly used for fraudulent transactions.

A second suspect, Nnabuife Nwekpa, remains at large.
