Fake Nurse Filming Newborns Rescued from Mob in Anambra

On June 23, 2026, Anurika Nweme, a 37-year-old female suspect, was apprehended while allegedly filming newborns in the maternity ward of Divine Mercy Hospital in Awada, Obosi, Anambra State. Eyewitnesses reported that she gained access to the hospital premises disguised as a nurse and was secretly recording videos of the infants.

When questioned by hospital staff, she falsely claimed to be an employee. However, hospital management confirmed that she was not affiliated with their staff.

Following her identification, an angry mob confronted her, but she was rescued by officers from the Anambra State Police Command, who placed her under protective custody. The police, represented by spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that a full-scale investigation into the incident is underway, particularly concerning possible links to a child trafficking ring.
