Family Demands Justice After Toddler's Death in School

On March 17, a two-year-old girl named Winni Akeku died at Wisdom Gate International School in Obio Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, after a bookshelf fell on her while she was asleep in the classroom. Her father, Iasuaka Akeku, reported that a verbal autopsy indicated she suffered a fractured skull, leading to hemorrhage and death.

The family claims the school quickly cleaned the scene and pressured them to settle the matter quietly. Iasuaka expressed concern over the police's handling of the investigation, alleging attempts to cover up the incident.

The school management issued a statement expressing sadness over the tragic loss and assured that they would cooperate fully with relevant authorities for a thorough investigation. They emphasized the safety of children in their care as a top priority and committed to reviewing and strengthening safety standards.
