NSC Acts to Block Favour Ofili's Switch to Turkey

The Nigeria's Nation Sport Commission (NSC) is actively working to halt Favour Ofili's request to change her athletic nationality to Turkey amid a citizenship dispute. The NSC has initiated official procedures to prevent the completion of her request, which could lead to potential disputes in international sports.

According to reports, the commission has contacted World Athletics to clarify its stance, asserting that no changes will take effect until September 2028, which is crucial for Nigeria's consistent performance on the world stage. Favour Ofili currently holds Nigeria's 200 meters record at 21.96 seconds and has competed in the World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and Olympic Games.

The NSC's actions are intended to safeguard Nigeria's long-term investment in elite athletes, particularly in light of Mari Onyali's past decision to decline several offers to represent other countries, choosing instead to remain devoted to Nigeria.
