FBI Boosts Security for Houston's 2026 World Cup Plans

The FBI is implementing increased security measures in Houston in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of spectators. Special Agent in Charge Jason Hudson stated that a unified command center will be established to facilitate communication and coordination among federal, state, and local agencies regarding potential threats.

This operation is anticipated to be the largest security effort Houston has seen to date, drawing on experiences from past major sporting events, including seven Super Bowls. The FBI will focus on preventing threats from lone offenders and organized groups, as well as state-sponsored threats.

Hudson emphasized the importance of drone surveillance, noting that the FBI will deploy technology to detect and disable unauthorized drones in restricted zones around stadiums and fan zones. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investing millions in technology to enhance security.

The command center will also include intelligence analysts to improve decision-making efficiency during the 42-day event.
