FCC's Bawa Allah Addresses Lagos Indigenes' Marginalization

Abdulwasiu Bawa Allah, who was reappointed as the representative of the Federal Character Commission for Lagos State, has vowed to end the marginalization of Lagos indigenes in federal appointments and resource distribution. During his inauguration on January 22, 2026, alongside Commission President Bola Tinubu, he emphasized the need for tighter compliance with constitutional principles.

Bawa Allah revealed that Lagos indigenes account for only 10% of junior-level positions across six federal ministries, a figure he described as shocking. He noted that non-indigenes previously held 67% of staff positions in federal agencies located in Lagos, although this gap has been reduced.

He identified low participation of Lagos indigenes in military and paramilitary recruitment as a major concern and urged parents to encourage their children to apply for military positions. Bawa Allah warned against the procurement of fake indigene certificates, stating that such practices could lead to prosecution.

His mandate extends beyond employment equity to include infrastructure and social amenities distribution across the state.
