Federal Character Commission Ensures Equity for Oyo State

Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloy, appointed as the representative of the Federal Character Commission for Oyo State, assured residents during a press conference on Thursday that there would be strict monitoring of federal recruitment processes to ensure equitable distribution of appointments. This event took place at the Federal Secretariat in Ikolaba, Ibadan.

Abass-Aleshinloy’s appointment followed the inauguration of the commission on January 22, 2026, under the executive chairmanship of Ayo Omidiran. He emphasized that the commission's mandate, rooted in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, aims to promote balanced representation among states and ethnic groups, fostering national unity and inclusivity.

He also noted that the commission's responsibilities extend beyond employment to include equitable distribution of infrastructure and social amenities. Abass-Aleshinloy highlighted that several recruitment exercises had been halted for failing to meet procedural requirements and urged federal agencies to provide adequate notice and documentation for recruitment processes, ensuring that opportunities are based on merit rather than political affiliations.
