FCCPC Monitors Fuel Prices Amid Middle East Conflict

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is actively monitoring the rise in fuel prices across Nigeria, which has been influenced by the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. Mr.

Tunji Bello, the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC, stated that the commission has deployed monitoring teams nationwide to track changes in fuel prices and essential commodities. He warned businesses against exploiting the situation to the detriment of Nigerian consumers.

The FCCPC will not tolerate unjustified price hikes and is working closely with the petroleum sector to ensure compliance with pricing trends. Bello noted that petrol prices have seen significant increases, with some filling stations selling petrol for as high as N1,500 per liter.

The commission is also investigating airlines that have reportedly exploited consumers during the 2025 yuletide travel period, with a final report expected soon. The FCCPC aims to protect consumers from exploitative practices and ensure a fair marketplace.
