FCCPC Investigates Uber's Exit from Nigeria by 2026

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has initiated an investigation into Uber's decision to cease operations in Nigeria, effective September 2, 2026. The probe, as disclosed by the FCCPC's Chief Executive Officer, Tunji Bello, will examine whether Uber left any outstanding services or responsibilities to its customers prior to its exit.

The investigation will assess how Uber managed its departure and whether it adequately addressed any pending issues, payments, or services for customers. This development follows Uber's announcement that it would also end its services in Uganda on the same date, marking the conclusion of its 12-year operation in Nigeria, which began in Lagos in 2014.

The FCCPC is particularly focused on the manner of Uber's exit and the implications for consumers who may have unresolved concerns.
