FCSC Enhances 2026 Promotion Exam with New Format

The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has initiated preparations to enhance the quality and credibility of the 2026 promotion examination. Chairman Prof. Tunji Olaopa announced these changes during an interactive session in Abuja with resource persons and stakeholders involved in the examination process.

Following the high pass rate in the 2025 examination, which utilized Computer-Based Testing (CBT) and Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), concerns arose regarding the depth of the questions. The 2026 examination will introduce scenario-based questions for candidates on Grade Levels 16 and 17, aiming to assess professional knowledge and judgment.

Candidates will answer 40 questions, including 10 scenario-based questions and 30 MCQs, with a total score of 50 marks. Olaopa cautioned against making the exam excessively difficult and stressed the importance of integrity and confidentiality in the process.

He also noted that individuals previously removed from the examiner pool due to attempts to compromise the examination would not be tolerated, ensuring the examination's credibility is maintained.
