FCT Executive Council Approves Hospital Upgrades and Completion

The Federal Capital Territory Executive Council has approved contracts for the construction and equipping of the abandoned Utako General Hospital, alongside the renovation and upgrading of 14 existing general hospitals in the territory. Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, announced this on Tuesday following an Executive Council meeting.

The upgrades will involve a complete overhaul of facility infrastructure and the procurement of advanced medical equipment, including diagnostic materials, X-ray machines, and surgical tools. Minister of FCT, Wike, directed the immediate resumption of work on the Utako project to ensure its operational status.

Dr. Fasawe also mentioned ongoing healthcare financing efforts, highlighting consistent payments to Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) under the health insurance scheme. The planned revamping of primary and secondary healthcare centers across the six Area Councils is expected to alleviate pressure on tertiary health institutions in the capital.
