On Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10 a.m., the Federal Capital Territory Football Association will launch its 2026 Women's Inter-Area Council Football Tournament at a designated FCT location. Running through the month of August and into early September, this competition brings together teams from all six Area Councils, with championship play scheduled for September 5, 2026.
According to organisers, the tournament provides young women throughout the territory with a formal competitive setting in which to hone their footballing abilities. By centralising talent from across the FCT into a single framework, the event functions as a discovery mechanism—identifying players capable of advancing into professional and international-level competition.
Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission Honorable Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran has confirmed she will attend the opening ceremony. When Dr Pat Adjuma Ayegba, who leads the HerGame Foundation and sits on the FCT Football Association's board, visited her office, Omidiran signalled her commitment to advancing women's football development in the territory.
Looking ahead to the tournament, Dr Ayegba expressed confidence that the event would surface a fresh generation of female players ready for professional-level play. The FCT Football Association's annual fixture brings together local government area representatives into this structured competitive model, which operates from late August through early September and serves as a talent-identification platform within the territory.
