Wike's Infrastructure Push Transforms Abuja Roads

The 28-day project inauguration exercise by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike marked a significant period for infrastructure delivery in Abuja. Despite the advancements, many communities, such as those in Kubwa, continue to struggle with deteriorating roads, leading to increased transport fares and safety concerns.

Over the past three years, Wike has awarded contracts for approximately 317 kilometers of roads, with 221 kilometers completed. The inauguration, which began on June 9, was part of the commemoration of President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary and included 31 projects across the six Area Councils, covering roads, water infrastructure, urban renewal initiatives, and a judicial complex.

The projects are expected to improve mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and stimulate economic activities, particularly benefiting rural communities that have faced isolation due to impassable roads. The ongoing construction and rehabilitation efforts are gradually transforming access to healthcare, education, and markets for these communities.
