Wike Halts Use of Abuja Green Areas as Car Lots

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has directed an immediate cessation of the use of green areas, parks, and gardens in Abuja as car dealership lots. This decision follows recent flooding incidents in the capital and emphasizes the importance of preserving designated recreational spaces.

Wike condemned the conversion of areas like Millennium Park into car lots and announced the formation of a task force to enforce this directive and ensure compliance. Additionally, he ordered an investigation into civil servants who allegedly granted illegal approvals for such uses.

The affected civil servants, particularly those in the Departments of Parks and Recreation, Environmental Protection, Traffic Management, and Urban Affairs, have been summoned by the FCT Head of Service, Nancy Sabanti Nathan. The directive is part of the FCT Administration's broader efforts to manage flooding in the Federal Capital City.
