FCT Minister Open to Dialogue with Striking Workers, Warns Against Blackmail

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, expressed willingness to engage in reasonable dialogue with striking workers in Abuja. He highlighted the government's recognition of workers' rights but cautioned against frivolous demands.

Wike stressed that the administration had initially opted for dialogue over confrontation but resorted to legal action when necessary. He disclosed the FCT's financial challenges, receiving only 10% of federal revenue, making it difficult to solely rely on statutory allocations.

Wike outlined the progress made in reforms, including the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and the appointment of permanent secretaries. He warned workers to resume duties or face disciplinary measures, emphasizing the rule of law and rejecting claims of broken dialogue.

The Minister assured compliance with court decisions and urged all parties to commit to lawful resolutions and continue reforms in the territory.
