FCTA Issues 26,272 Certificates of Occupancy Under Wike

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has signed 26,272 Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) since President Bola Tinubu assumed office, according to a statement from Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on public communication and social media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. This figure is over three times the 8,697 C-of-Os issued from 2010 to 2023.
Under former President Goodluck Jonathan, 5,500 C-of-Os were signed, while former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration issued 3,197. Many beneficiaries of the new C-of-Os had received land allocations over a decade ago but lacked title documents.
The initiative is expected to facilitate access to credit for property owners and businesses, as C-of-Os are essential for securing loans. Allottees can now receive their C-of-O within two weeks after payment, aided by an automated notification system.
Additionally, there has been an increase in property-related approvals under the Tinubu administration, with 2,521 Consents to Assign and 177 Consents to Mortgage granted in the last three years.
