FCTA Targets 1.49 Million Children for 2026 Health Week

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has set a target of 1,497,665 children for the first round of the 2026 Maternal Newborn Child Health Week (MNCHW), which is scheduled to take place from June 3 to June 7, 2026. During a media orientation in Abuja, Dr.

Adedolapo Fasaw, the FCT Mandate Secretary for Health Services, described the initiative as a biannual high-impact exercise aimed at bringing life-saving services closer to families. The program will cover six area councils and includes routine immunization, provision of vitamin supplements for children aged 6-59 months, deworming for children aged 12-59 months, and nutritional counseling for pregnant women.

Mr. Chinyer Ekwuem from the FCT State Nutrition Office stated that the initiative will be carried out across government health facilities, ensuring comprehensive immunization programs and health education.

The MNCHW aims to enhance maternal and child health outcomes through various health services.
