FCTA Intensifies Fight Against Illegal Transport in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), represented by Transport Secretariat official Chinedum Elechi, has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing criminal activities associated with illegal public transport operations in Abuja. The enforcement operations commenced on July 1, focusing on unauthorized motor parks, particularly the well-known Jabi upstairs location.

Elechi stated that the initiative aims to ensure that commercial vehicles operate from designated areas like the Mabushi bus taxi terminal. Vehicle owners will be required to present necessary documentation to reclaim impounded vehicles, with assurances that they will not return to illegal loading points.

Dr. Peter Olumuji, from the FCTA Command Control Centre, emphasized that allowing illegal motor parks to thrive undermines law and order in the nation’s capital.

The FCT Security Service Department is actively participating in these enforcement actions to ensure compliance. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce criminal activities previously associated with commercial transport in Abuja.
