Federal Polytechnic Oko Addresses Building Collapse Incident

The management of the Federal Polytechnic Oko in Anambra State has addressed reports regarding a building collapse near the institution, asserting that no students were trapped. The incident involved the Elite Five Star Lodge, a privately owned structure in Amaokpala, not on the Polytechnic's premises.

Dr Oguegbu Celestine Udoka, the institution's Public Relations Officer, stated that the reports circulating on social media were misleading. He confirmed that the collapse occurred after students had completed their second-semester examinations and many had already left for home.

As of the statement's issuance, no student from the Polytechnic had been confirmed dead. The Rector, Dr Chioma Irene Awuzie, visited the scene early on Monday to assess the situation, accompanied by the President of the Students’ Union Government, Giant Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu Joseph, and other officials.

Anambra State Commissioners for Works and Health also visited to support rescue efforts, with several occupants rescued and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
