No Students Dead in Anambra Hostel Collapse, Says Polytechnic

The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, located in Anambra State, issued a statement clarifying that no students from the institution died in the collapse of the Elite Five Star Hostel in Amaokpala on Sunday night. Dr Oguegbu Udoka, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, stated that the hostel was a privately owned building, not affiliated with the polytechnic, and was occupied by both students and non-students.

He confirmed that the two individuals believed to be trapped in the rubble were not students of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko. Most students had already vacated the campus after completing their second-semester examinations prior to the incident.

The Rector, Dr Chioma Awuzie, visited the site on Monday morning with school officials to assess the situation, and state government officials also participated in the rescue efforts. The institution urged the public to disregard any contrary reports and assured that it would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as rescue operations progressed.
