NEMA Seals Collapsed Hostel in Anambra, One Dead

On Monday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) sealed the premises of the collapsed Elite Five Star Hostel located in Amaokpala community, near the Federal Polytechnic Oko, in Orumba North local government area of Anambra State. The three-storey hostel collapsed around 11 pm on Friday, leading to fears of multiple casualties.

Reports confirmed that one female student from the Federal Polytechnic Oko was killed in the incident. Rescue operations, involving government officials, private individuals, and the polytechnic authority, were conducted at the site, resulting in at least five individuals being rescued and subsequently treated in a hospital.

The cause of the collapse remains unknown; however, a resident, Miss Roselyn Okoye, stated that the hostel was built around 2015 and she had previously rented there but moved out after noticing cracks and an unusual shape in the structure.
