FIFA's Support Fuels Cape Verde's Football Success

Gelson Fernandes, FIFA's Deputy Director for Africa, emphasized the substantial support FIFA offers to Cape Verde, which has been crucial for the country's football development. He noted that Cape Verde has made significant strides, including reaching the knockout phase of the World Cup, a historic achievement for the nation.

Fernandes, who has personal ties to Cape Verde, highlighted the importance of FIFA's initiatives in addressing various challenges faced by the Cape Verde Football Federation. He mentioned that FIFA is actively working on 17 different projects, including the construction of artificial pitches in Santa Cruz on Santiago Island, aimed at benefiting multiple teams and creating opportunities for young players.

Fernandes also pointed out that the new World Cup format, featuring 48 teams, presents further opportunities for Cape Verde and other African nations. He expressed pride in the progress made and the emotional connection it fosters among Cape Verdeans, particularly those born abroad.
