FG Allocates N46bn for Kano Airport Runway Rehabilitation

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved N46 billion for the rehabilitation of a second runway at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano. This announcement was made by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Tuesday during the commissioning of the newly upgraded Domestic Terminal at the airport.

Keyamo revealed that approximately 60% of the contract sum has already been released, and the contractor has mobilized to the site, indicating that work on the runway project has begun. He emphasized the importance of the Kano airport, noting its status as Nigeria's fourth busiest, with a total passenger traffic of 838,492.

The investment aims to enhance the airport's competitiveness with international airports. The terminal upgrade is part of a broader airport infrastructure development initiative under the ministry’s Five-Point Agenda, with FAAN's Managing Director, Mrs.

Olubunmi Kuku, stating that the upgrades will significantly improve passenger experience.
