FG Arraigns Ansaru Commanders Over Teachers' Murder

On Wednesday, the Federal Government arraigned two commanders of the Ansaru terrorist organization, Abubakar Abba Mahmuda Abu Bara’a and Abubakar Abbas (Mallam Mahmuda Al-Nigeri), along with three associates, on charges of terrorism, kidnapping, and the beheading of two teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State. The arraignment took place before Justice Salim Ibrahim at the Federal High Court in Abuja, which adjourned the case until September 24 for trial commencement, ordering the suspects to remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The DSS had captured the commanders in August 2025, and during the rescue of the Oriire captives, three additional individuals linked to the terror attack were arrested. Recently, a Federal High Court sentenced Mahmud Usman (Abu Bara’a) and his deputy to life imprisonment after they pleaded guilty to charges related to terrorism.

Following this, the DSS expressed dissatisfaction with the judgment and opted to pursue new charges against the commanders and their associates.
