Nigeria's Livestock Ministry Seeks Collaboration with ACIAR

On July 23, 2026, Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, met with a delegation from the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) to discuss stronger collaboration in Nigeria's livestock sector.

Dr. Akujobi emphasized the need for research interventions to align with national priorities and deliver measurable impacts.

She stated that organizations should coordinate through the Ministry to avoid duplication and ensure effective stakeholder engagement. The Ministry aims to translate research findings into practical improvements for livestock producers and requested ACIAR to share its concept note, implementation timeline, key performance indicators, and expected outcomes to align with the National Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy (NL-GAS).

The Ministry's directors urged broader stakeholder consultations and alignment with existing policies. Mr.

Wekem Raymond Avatim, Senior Initiative Manager for ACIAR, noted that the visit is part of a regional scoping study to identify priority investment areas for livestock development in Nigeria and West Africa.
