FERMA Starts Repairs on Kano Eastern Bypass to Ease Traffic

The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has initiated repairs on the 13-kilometre dilapidated Kano Eastern Bypass to mitigate traffic congestion in Kano metropolis. Supervising Engineer Sarfil Umar announced the commencement of the project during an inspection on Saturday.

The repairs, executed through direct labour, involve approximately 70 FERMA personnel and other workers. The bypass is a crucial federal highway linking Maiduguri Road to Katsina and Kaduna, facilitating long-haul traffic and regional trade.

The maintenance project, which began on July 23, is expected to be completed within two weeks and includes pothole patching, desilting drains, and repairing damaged street lighting poles. Umar emphasized the importance of maintaining drainage systems to prevent water retention, which can lead to pavement failure.

He urged residents to avoid dumping refuse into drainage channels to reduce flooding risks. FERMA’s Kano State Coordinator, Bashir Mohammed Isma, reiterated the agency's commitment to preserving federal roads through timely maintenance.
