FG Denies New Ban on Nigerian Workers in Kuwait

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria issued a statement on Saturday, denying recent media reports that the Government of Kuwait imposed a new ban on the recruitment of Nigerian domestic workers. The statement, signed by spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, clarified that the suspension of recruitment and deployment of domestic workers to Kuwait was a measure initiated years ago by the Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait City, not a new action by Kuwaiti authorities.

The embassy had previously communicated with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs to suspend recruitment pending the resolution of concerns regarding the welfare, protection, and working conditions of Nigerian domestic workers. The Ministry emphasized that this situation is a continuation of protective measures rather than a fresh ban.

Both Nigeria and Kuwait will continue to engage diplomatically on labor and migration issues to establish fair recruitment practices and improve working conditions for Nigerian workers. The Ministry urged the public to verify information from official sources to avoid spreading misleading reports.
