Yobe Governor Buni Electrifies 450 Communities with Solar

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni announced that his administration has electrified more than 450 rural communities as part of efforts to enhance electricity access and promote socio-economic development. This announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for 13.92MWp interconnected hybrid solar mini-grid projects in Damaturu, which are being implemented by the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The projects will serve communities in Waziri Ibrahim, Damaturu; Rugan Fulani and Yarimaram in Potiskum; Gashua in Bade Local Government Area; and Nguru in Nguru Local Government Area. Buni highlighted that his administration has also connected several communities to the national grid and restored electricity to areas affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Notably, Gulani and Yunusari local government areas, which had been without national grid connection for 30 and 35 years, respectively, are now connected. The governor also mentioned the construction of a dedicated feeder line to Yobe State University and its Teaching Hospital, along with the installation and rehabilitation of transformers and transmission infrastructure.

Abba Aliyu, the Managing Director of REA, praised the governor's commitment, while Mahmoud Mamman from the Federal Ministry of Power reiterated the government's dedication to providing sustainable electricity.
