Nigeria Targets 100 Million More for NIN Enrollment

The Federal Government of Nigeria is intensifying its digital identity drive, targeting the enrollment of an additional 100 million Nigerians into the National Identity Number (NIN) system. Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, disclosed this initiative on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with Dr.

Abisoy Coker Odusot, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The NIMC has already enrolled 136 million Nigerians into the national identity database, but significant work remains to capture the remaining population.

The initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes the importance of identity management in achieving financial inclusion. The NIMC is set to commence a nationwide ward-by-ward enrollment campaign across Nigeria's 8,809 political wards, ensuring that every Nigerian, including women, children, persons with disabilities, and rural dwellers, is included.

The NIMC Act 2026 has modernized Nigeria's identity management framework, enhancing data protection and cybersecurity.
