NIMC Advocates for Secure Digital Government Services

At the ITGov Nigeria 2026 Summit held in Abuja, Abisoy Coker, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), called for the acceleration of secure digital government services. She highlighted the critical need for a reliable digital identity system to improve public service delivery and mitigate risks of fraud and inefficiency.

Coker emphasized that countries lacking such systems face challenges in delivering services and that financial institutions and businesses remain vulnerable. The NIMC aims to transform into a basic identity management agency, establishing a framework to support secure electronic signatures and digital trust services.

Dr. Lare Ayoola, Executive Chairman of Tranter, discussed the integration of digital platforms to enhance service delivery timelines, reducing processes from three months to one week.

The summit underscored the importance of robust cybersecurity measures and the need for sustained investment in digital infrastructure to protect citizens' information.
