FG Launches Verification of Disputed Oil, Gas Fields in Niger Delta for Fair Revenue Sharing

The Federal Government has initiated the verification of disputed newly drilled crude oil and gas fields in the Niger Delta to resolve ownership claims and ensure fair revenue sharing among producing states. The exercise, in line with paragraph 32 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, involves a Technical Committee to validate the precise locations of the disputed fields.

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) Chairman, Mohammed Shehu, highlighted the importance of this exercise in response to concerns raised by governors regarding ownership and boundary issues. The verification process will cover states like Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo, and Anambra, utilizing geospatial data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
