FG Enhances Alausa Substation Capacity to 205MVA

The Federal Government commissioned a new 100MVA, 132/33kV power transformer at the Alausa Transmission Substation in Lagos State on Tuesday, increasing the facility's installed capacity from 135MVA to 205MVA. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe stated that this project is part of efforts to expand transmission capacity and alleviate electricity supply constraints in critical economic areas.

The upgrade will provide an additional 80MW of bulk electricity to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) for distribution to consumers. The new transformer replaces a 30MVA unit, increasing the capacity at that position by 70MVA.

Prior to the upgrade, the substation had a combined capacity of 135MVA from three transformers. Tegbe emphasized the economic benefits of improved electricity availability for businesses and households and outlined the government's strategy to address transmission bottlenecks and invest in critical infrastructure.

He commended the Transmission Company of Nigeria for the project's delivery and urged IKEDC to ensure the additional capacity translates into improved electricity supply.
