Ondo NLC, TUC Threaten Strike Over FUTATH Worker Issues

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Ondo State have issued a warning to the management of the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) regarding alleged victimization and harassment of workers. In a letter jointly signed by Comrade Demola Olopade and Comrade Clement Fatuwa, the unions accused the hospital of intimidating members and violating their rights to belong to a trade union.

They emphasized that any attempt to suppress union activities would be met with resistance. The unions demand that the hospital management ensure the enrollment of all workers on the authentic nomination roll as per a memorandum of understanding with the federal government.

They also called for an immediate cessation of practices that pressure workers to renounce their union membership. The unions threatened to embark on an indefinite industrial action if their demands are not met within seven days, which could lead to a total shutdown of the hospital.

Prof. Olusegun Ojo, the Chief Medical Director of FUTATH, denied the allegations of victimization.
