FG moves to enrol millions of diasporan Nigerians into NIN platform

The Federal Government is working to enroll millions of diasporan Nigerians into the National Identification Number (NIN) platform. The upgraded diaspora enrollment platform aims to bring these individuals into the country's NIN database.

Currently, 122 million Nigerians have been registered and enrolled in the NIN database, with Lagos having the highest number of enrollees at 14 million. Despite this progress, Nigeria is still behind its target, having missed the June 30, 2024 deadline set by the World Bank to register at least 148 million people.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is in charge of the NIN platform and has stated that the upgrade will provide seamless, robust, secure, efficient, and effective NIN service delivery to Nigerians in the diaspora. Diaspora partners have been onboarded to the upgraded system after intensive training.
