FG Begins Compensation Payments for Injured Workers

The Federal Government has commenced the payment of compensation to Federal Civil Servants who have suffered work-related injuries, occupational diseases, and disabilities, with the presentation of the first batch of compensation cheques under the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS). This initiative is a significant milestone in the implementation of the Employees’ Compensation Act, 2010, for Federal Public Servants and reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing workers’ welfare and social protection.

The presentation ceremony took place in Abuja and was led by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who stated that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Walson-Jack emphasized that compensation is a legal entitlement for eligible workers and praised Mr. Oluwaseun Mayomi Faleye, Managing Director and CEO of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, for his role in the scheme's implementation.

She also urged compliance with occupational health and safety standards to reduce workplace accidents.
