FG Commits to Secure 2027 Elections Amid Security Concerns

On Tuesday in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to ensuring secure, credible, and transparent elections in 2027. Speaking at the 8th Public Lecture, Impact Series and Awards of Excellence organized by Blueprint Newspapers Limited, Idris highlighted that the integrity of elections is influenced by the security environment, institutional credibility, political conduct, media professionalism, and the quality of information available to citizens.

He stated that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, the security and welfare of Nigerians are paramount, and the government will mobilize necessary resources to combat terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. Idris also addressed the threats posed by misinformation, particularly due to advancements in Artificial Intelligence.

He noted the establishment of the International Media and Information Literacy Institute (IMILI) in Abuja to enhance media literacy. Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar, the event's chairman, stressed that insecurity should not solely be the responsibility of security agencies but requires collective action from all stakeholders.
